February 8, 2012 - According to reports a woman is in critical condition after being struck near a bus bench by a stolen SUV hit and run. According to Westminster Police Department Sgt. Cameron Knauerhaze the hit and run was reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. occurring near Beach Boulevard and Bolsa Avenue in Westminster.

Sgt. Knauerhaze said a woman identified as Charita Zamora of Westminster was critically injured in a hit and run accident that occurred when a stolen Lexus SUV struck a pole. Zamora was found lying next to a bus bench. According to Westminster Police Department witnesses stated that four men got out of the vehicle after striking the woman and the pole and ran from the scene of the crash. Police detained two of the men after seeing two of them running as they approached the crash. The men have been released currently, while the stolen vehicle and hit and run is investigated.

Sgt. Knauerhaze said, Zamora was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she is listed in stable, but critical condition. She is being treated for a broken arm, multiple cuts and other injuries.

The driver of the stolen Lexus lost control of the vehicle and police believe they were traveling westbound at the time and were avoiding stopped traffic and coupled with weather conditions lost control of the SUV.

Westminster Police said the Lexus SUV was stolen on Sunday from a home that was burglarized. Police are still looking for the two men involved that have not been caught.

According to the California Highway Patrol the collision involving three vehicles occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of the I-10 Freeway at Monte Vista in Montclair.

The accident occurred when the driver of a Mercedes lost control of the vehicle hitting a big rig, which caused the driver to swerve to the left, hitting a Nissan, the California Highway Patrol said. The big rig and the Nissan both struck the center divider, with one of the big rig’s diesel tanks landing in the eastbound lanes of the freeway and rupturing.

According to the California Highway Patrol officials, this is what caused the big rig to catch fire, which took more than an hour for firefighters to extinguish. The driver suffered injuries and was airlifted to County USC Medical Center, CHP officials said.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez the tanker truck caught fire at approximately a few minutes after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday under an overpass on State Highway 60.

Officer Ramirez stated an initial call was received at 12:07 p.m. indicating the brakes might be on fire. The tanker truck was found engulfed under an overpass, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles in the eastbound lanes of the Pomona Freeway in Montebello. Officer Ramirez said the tanker truck was the only vehicle involved in the incident.

The big rig that was hauling two trailers crashed into the center median divider on the 14 Freeway, crashing half way through the divider. Woman Killed in Huntington Beach Hit and Run Identified

July 22, 2011-According to reports a woman killed in a hit and run crash in Huntington Beach has been identified. The hit and run crash that occurred at approximately 1:48 a.m. on Brookhurst Street and Atlanta Avenue. The woman has been identified as Oriana Millan age 24 of Huntington Beach.

According to Huntington Beach Police Department Lt. John Domingo, Oriana Millan was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash shortly after 2:00 a.m. Lt. Dimingo stated that Millan and Harlan Coffman age 25 were crossing Brookhurst Street when Millan was struck by the vehicle. Coffman a residen of La Mirada sustained injuries that were non-life threatening and is in stable condition, according to police.

According to police the driver suspected of felony hit and run was arrested approximately two hours later in Laguna Beach. SUV Rolls Over on the 91 Freeway Injuring Two

June 13, 2011 - According to reports two people were injured on the 91 Freeway after an SUV rolled over. According to the California Highway Patrol two people were injured when a Honda CR-V flipped over multiple times in Anaheim in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway.

California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada stated the accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. causing a SigAlert to be issued in the No.3 and 4 lanes in the vicinity of Glassell Street.

February 2, 2011-According to reports as many as 5 big rigs overturned on San Bernardino freeways.

According to the California Highway Patrol strong winds caused five big rigs to rollover in as few as three hours.

The first big rig rollover occurred on the 15 Freeway in the southbound lanes at the 10 Freeway connector in Rancho Cucamonga, causing the lanes to be closed 4 ½ hours. The accident occurred at 4:15 a.m. causing a fuel spill.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. two more big rigs overturned near the same vicinity, but traveling northbound. According to California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Jaci Parent and approximately one half hour later a fourth big rig overturned on the 10 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga in the vicinity of the Etiwanda exit.

Approximately 7:00 a.m. a fifth big rig rolled over traveling eastbound on the 60 Freeway on the border of Rancho Cucamonga and Riverside, near the 15 Freeway.

December 16, 2010-According to reports a big rig jack-knifed on the 22 Freeway shutting down lanes. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Gabe Montoya a big rig jack-knifed in a crash that occurred at approximately 9:03 a.m.

The big rig was struck by a van that caused it to jack-knife in the eastbound lanes of the 22 Freeway in the vicinity of Haster Street at Fairview.

Big Rig Truck Driver’s Family Sues S-Curve Fatality

October 30, 2010-According to reports the family of a truck driver killed in an s-curve crash. The family of Tahir Sheikh Fakhar age 56 has filed a wrongful death legal suit against Caltrans and several other parties.

Fakhar a resident of Hayward, was killed when his big rig fell over the Bay Bridge last year on the bridges s-curve, causing the truck to plunge 200 feet. The crash that occurred November 9th at 3:30 a.m. on the northern side of the s-curve. Investigators alleged Rakhar was driving 10 mph over the 40 mph speed limit at the time of the crash.

The suit filed by Fakhar’s family states the s-curve as a part of the rebuilding of the Bay Bridge was introduced to drivers on September 9, 2009 and did not have adequate warning signs or other measures to warn drivers to the change.
The family’s attorney Lewis Van Blois stated it the public was unaware how sharp the s-curve was until after the accident or how much speed needed to be reduced. Van Blois said that this concealed a trap surprising drivers and not giving them the ability to make it through the curve.

After Fakhar’s big rig that was carrying pears went over the side of the Bay Bridge Caltrans improved the warning signs and added rumble strips and flashing lights to warn drivers to slow down.The speed limit on other parts of the Bay Bridge are 50 mph. and Caltrans spokesman Bart Ney stated he could not comment on the wrongful death suit. He did state that there has been increased enforcement of the speed limit and public awareness has cut down on the amount of accidents on the s-curve.

According to the Polish police eighteen people were killed in a van involved in a head on crash with a truck about 80 kilometers south of Warsaw. The accident involved a Volkswagen Transporter Van and a Volvo truck. The van according to police is believed to have been carrying commuters.

The accident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. when the Volkswagen Transporter van swerved into the opposite lane. Heavy Fog is believed to have contributed to the van swerving into the other lane.

July 20, 2010-According to reports a the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were blocked after the big rig overturned. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. in the vicinity of Roxford Street in the Newhall Pass area. They issued a SigAlert a short time later for all the southbound lanes of Interstate 5.

Officers on the scene of the overturned big rig were directing traffic onto the right side of the southbound lanes according to California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

According to Officer Martin the big rig was leaking diesel fuel and they originally estimated the freeway would be reopened within two hours. Three of the four southbound lanes were closed after the Monday morning accidents in Castaic that involved two big rigs. According to the California Highway Patrol officer Patrick Kimball the Castaic crash occurred when one of the big rigs crashed into the back of another big rig in the vicinity south of CHP Road exit on Interstate 5 at approximately 6:30 a.m.

Officer Kimball stated the southbound lanes were expected to stay closed until approximately 8:00 a.m. Due to the collision one of the big rigs caught fire and because it was carrying bread there was no concern about hazardous materials, according to authorities.

Three Big Rigs Collide in Highway 99 Crash--One Driver Dead—One Injured

July 7, 2010-According to reports by a Los Angeles truck accident attorney, two big rigs collided on Highway 99, killing one of the drivers. California Highway Patrol Officer Rick Horrocks stated the big rig collision occurred in the vicinity of Lander Road, at approximately 12:00 a.m.

The accident was believed to have occurred when a big rig was merging back onto the 99 Freeway, when another big rig slowed to allow the truck into the slow lane. A third truck that was following the slowing big rig drove into the back of the big rig that had slowed down.

According to the latest report from the California Highway Patrol the first truck was stalled on the freeway and struck by the second big rig that was struck in the rear by the third big rig. According to Officer Horrocks the driver in the third big rig was killed in the accident and one of the other truck drivers was transported to the hospital.

July 2, 2010-According to reports there was a deadly accident on the 101 Freeway involving a big rig.

The accident that occurred on the 101 Freeway westbound lanes in the vicinity of Agoura Hills early Friday, when a vehicle slammed into the back of a big rig.

According to officials one person was transported from the scene of the big rig crash in critical condition and two men were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Los Angeles Big Rig Crash Traps and Critically Injures Woman

June 18, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a woman was trapped and critically injured in a Los Angeles Big Rig crash. The accident occurred approximately 7:00 a.m. Friday morning critically injuring a woman in the vicinity of 48th Place and Long Beach Avenue in South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles Fire Department Shawn Lenske.

The collision occurred near the Metro Blue Line tracks, closing some of the tracks for several hours. The crash involved a big rig and the vehicle the woman was driving, when the car collided with the big rig it became trapped under the cab of the tractor trailer.

According to Lenske, it took Los Angeles firefighters to free the woman that was pinned under the cab of the big rig. The woman is identified as approximately 30 years old who was driving the vehicle and was transported by paramedics to the hospital in critical condition.

According to Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo the Blue Line tracks were closed in both directions due to the collision and buses were brought to shuttle passengers around the closed section of the highway until approximately 8:30 a.m. One track was reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m. allowing north and southbound trains to alternate sharing the opened track.

Highway 91 Crash Causes Tanker Truck to Explode

May 29, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a collision that caused a tanker truck explosion on Highway 95 closed the freeway for approximately eight hours Friday.

The accident that was reported at approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday on one of California’s busiest freeways backed traffic up for miles in Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties.

The collision involved a tanker truck loaded with 8,800 gallons of gasoline, another truck, a Mitsubishi a sedan and a Honda, causing the tanker tuck to overturn catching on fire.

According to the California Highway Patrol the big rig truck collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway in Carona. This was a chain reaction collision said California Highway Patrol Officer Maurice Walker. The initial crash involved another truck and a Mitsubishi sedan and the driver of the tanker truck was taking evasive action to maneuver around the crash when the driver lost control. The tanker then struck a Honda causing it to flip over and explode into flames.

According to CHP officer Walker the impact of the truck forced the Honda over the center divider, where it was then struck by two vehicles traveling in the westbound lanes. Three people were transported to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries and the driver of the tanker truck was not injured according to the California Highway Patrol.

The traffic according to CHP officer Walker the traffic was backed up on the arterials and freeways and with Memorial Day weekend traffic there was more traffic. The carpool lane and two other lanes will be closed until the California Department of Transportation inspects the damage and makes repairs that might be needed. The California Highway Patrol closed the eastbound lanes of the freeway at Green River Road and the westbound lanes were closed at the 71 freeway for safety reasons after the tanker truck rolled over.

Big Rig and SUV Crash On Orange County Freeway

According to California Highway Patrol Officer Filbrow the accident was reported at 6:39 a.m. as an accident with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a big rig. The accident occurred in the vicinity of the southbound 57 Freeway at Orangethorpe Avenue, where according to officer Filbrow the driver of the Jeep SUV was driving too fast for the drizzling weather conditions. The driver of the SUV spun out and was then struck by the tractor-trailer truck.

The accident blocked three of the 57 Freeway southbound lanes and no injuries were reported in the collision according to the California Highway Patrol officer.

Truck Driver Pinned Underneath Trailer

The driver according to officials was pinned under a 25 foot flatbed trailer that was hauling a bulldozer, when he attempted to fix a problem with the breaks and the trailer collapsed trapping the man.

According to Capt. Ed Engler of the Orange County Fire Department the accident occurred in the 1800 block of West Collins Avenue, and at least 16 Orange County fire fighters responded to the scene at approximately 10:51 a.m.

The truck driver according to Capt. Engler was able to crawl out from under the collapsed trailer and was said to have no severe injuries, but was shaken up.

SUV Collides With Big Rig on 210 Freeway—3 Killed

November 23, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports three people were killed when an SUV crashed into a big rig. The accident occurred in Sunland Sunday morning on the 210 Freeway in the westbound lanes at approximately 5:00 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the SUV crashed into a truck hauling lettuce that was parked on the side of the freeway, killing three people in the SUV. The vehicle rear ended the big rig in the vicinity of Sunland and broke into flames according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jennifer Connolly. The officer also stated it is not known what lane the SUV was traveling in and there were no skid marks at the scene of the crash.

Killed in the accident was a 14 year old boy, a 41 year old man and a 40 year old woman. Two other children, a 9 year old girl and an 11 year old boy got out of the vehicle to safety, and perhaps with the assistance of a passerby according to the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Officer Connolly stated that the three people killed in the crash were unable to escape the vehicle after the crash, and the children that escaped the vehicle were transported to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles. They were reported to be in fair condition according to authorities.

According Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey the driver of the big rig was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after complaining of chest discomfort.

Humphrey stated that the SUV crash started a brush fire in the vicinity that took 61 firefighters approximately 29 minutes to put it out. According to Officer Connelly after the accident the westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway were closed down for approximately four hours.

Driver Killed After Being Struck By Delivery Truck

Josh Min the early morning accident occurred at a Westwood bakery named Paris Pastry on 1448 Westwood Boulevard. The driver of the truck was standing in front of it when the delivery truck struck him and then rolled into the bakery.

Police stated they believe the driver might have forgotten to put the brake on, and that the bakery was not damaged in the crash. According to Sgt. Min a sales clerk heard the crash and the driver who has not been identified was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Sgt. Min also stated that the accident is still under investigation by the police department.

San Francisco Bridge Scene of Deadly Tractor Trailer Accident

The accident occurred when a tractor trailer truck failed negotiating an S-curve on the westbound side of the San Francisco Bay Bridge, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Trent Cross. The big rig was hauling produce and the accident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol Sgt. Cross the driver of the big rig was killed on impact after plummeting over 200 feet. The name of the driver has not been released pending notification of their next of kin.

The S-curve on the bridge according to Stg. Cross has been an area where there have been as many as 42 crashes since it opened September 8th, and the speed limit has been lowered from 5 miles per hour to 40. There have also been flashing lights put in place to warn drivers of the danger of the sudden curve on the roadway.

Big Rig Jackknifes On I-15 Closes Lanes

The accident occurred in the Athens area on the corner of South Normandie Avenue and West 106th Street according to authorities at approximately 8:00 p.m.

According to witnesses two vehicles were racing when the crash occurred, investigators reported that a Chevy Tahoe was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on Normandie Street. The driver of the Tahoe lost control of the SUV crashing into a 1996 Saturn and then burst into flames. According to witnesses, they assisted the driver of the Tahoe out of the burning vehicle and the female driver of the Saturn was fatally injured in the crash.

Witness Roneisha Pool stated that she heard a loud boom, boom and the truck was spinning out and on fire, witnesses at the scene pulled the male driver out, helping him to the curb and the bottoms of his pants were on fire. Witnesses stated that a short time later two other men in the other vehicle that was racing arrived and carried the injured driver away, prior to authorities and emergency crews arriving.

Man Fatally Injured After Crashing Truck

According to the California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Maguire, the accident occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. in the vicinity of Jones Road traveling toward Treat Boulevard, when the 1997 Chevrolet 1500 pickup he was driving swerved. The pickup truck then crashed through a construction fence striking a pile of wooden pallets.

The man that was fatally injured according to the California Highway Patrol officer was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was unconscious, with his foot pressing the gas pedal when the authorities and emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash.

The 60 year old man was transported to John Muir Medical Center where he later died, it has been reported that the injuries sustained in the truck accident might not have been fatal, and that his death was most likely caused by another reason. Truck Driver Pleads Not Guilty In La Canada Crash

According to reports the 43-year-old trick driver identified as Marco Costa plead not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court May 13th in Pasadena.

Costa will appear at a the scheduled hearing to hear when a date will be set for a preliminary hearing for the two felony charges pending against him after the La Canada big rig crash.

Costa is currently free on a $200,000 bail according to a court clerk and investigators are stating that Costa disregarded the posted weight limits posted on the Angeles Crest Highway.

Since the big rig accident when Costa’s car hauler lost its breaks on the 210 Freeway striking a vehicle in which Angel Jorge Posca age 58 and his daughter 12 year old Angelina Posca were killed. The big rig then struck four other vehicles, ran thought a bookstore and then into a salon pinning a man. Three people were critically injured during the collision with the car hauler.

Caltrans has since closed the Angeles Crest Highway to all five-axle trucks for ninety days. This comes after complaints by city officials in the La Canada Flintridge area.

According to attorney Mark Werskman, Costa is devastated over the crash and had taken the route because his GPS system told him it was the fastest route.

Vehicle Catches Fire After Collision With Tractor Trailer—Two Fatally Injured

The California Highway Patrol Officer Adrian Quintero stated a 1989 Buick collided with a big rig on Highway 12 in the vicinity west of Lodi. The vehicle traveling eastbound swerved causing it to sideswipe the Peterbilt big rig that was carrying a take of red wine in the area of Correia Road. This caused the vehicle to be drug approximately 50 feet westbound by the truck that was traveling at 54 miles per hour at which time the vehicle caught fire.

A witness to the crash identified as Ron Phillips age 48 was traveling approximately a quarter mile behind the vehicle on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle stated that he tried to help the victims in the vehicle but it was to late. He also stated the adult and child appeared to have already succumbed to their injuries.

Officer Quintero stated while the victims could not be identified at the scene the child appeared to be approximately 10 to 12 years old.

The driver of the tractor-trailer also attempted to rescue the adult and child in the vehicle but could not get near the vehicle because the flames were to hot already, he has been identified as 38 year old Juan Brado. According to Officer Quintero Bardo was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision and was wearing his seatbelt.

The accident was the first fatal accident in 2009 on Highway 12, which has earned the nickname of Blood Alley after March 2007 when six people died in five accidents during a three day period.

According to reports a tractor-trailer accident injuring as many as 27 occurred in the Fort Tejon area.

California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Jobinger in Fresno stated it was assumed the big rig lost its breaks on the Grapevine downgrade into the Central Valley. The crash involved nine vehicles in the Fort Tejon area near the emergency truck ramp at approximately 12:52 p.m.

It was reported there were 27 people injured, some of the injured motorists were airlifted by helicopter to the Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills located in Los Angeles. Officer Jobinger stated there were no fatalities reported in the accident.

The multi-vehicle crash closed four northbound lanes of the freeway in to the San Joaquin Valley. Traffic backed up as far as Fort Tejon and Lebec, which was approximately eight miles of backed up traffic. Motorists traveling northbound were detoured east at Route 138, then on a 50 mile detour through Lancaster and Tehachapi. Traffic was also detoured north to Bakersfield on routes 14 and 58.

SigAlert Issued In I-5 Big Rig Rollover

Jeep And Tractor Trailer Crash On Cuesta Grade

According to reports there was an accident that involved a Jeep hitting a tractor trailer truck.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5:00 p.m. when a slow moving tractor trailer was hit by a Jeep driven by a man who has been identified as Joshua Lowe age 31.

18 Wheeler Accident Closes Lanes of Highway 60

The accident occurred north of Palmdale Road while on the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 according to the California Highway Patrol. There have been reports that an accident involving a vehicle and a tractor trailer occurred on the Golden State Freeway.

According to reports the California Highway Patrol Sgt. stated the accident was reported at approximately 12:00 am and that a woman motorist driving a Toyota ran into the back of a tractor trailer.

The woman motorist was killed upon impact with the tractor trailer, her name has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.

FRESNO, Calif. - At least 100 cars and 18 big rig trucks collided in the fog on Saturday November 3, 2007, killing two people and possibly more, as well as having injured many many more according to the California Highway Patrol. This 100 car crash pile up in Fresno involving 18 big rig trucks is one of the worst in terms of numbers of vehicles involved, in U.S. history.

18 big rig trucks were also damaged in the vehicle crash, which occurred on Highway 99 just south of Fresno in deep fog. Witnesses states that the fog made it hard to see and that may have added to the increase in the accident occurring. This is verified by the CHP.

"It looked like something out of a movie, walking up and seeing all the cars mangled and crushed," according to CHP Officer Paul Solorzano Jr.

"There was probably 2-foot visibility in the fog when I got here. It was really bad," "It looked like chaos." "Cars were backed up on top of each other", according to Mike Bowman, who is a spokesperson for California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

First responders extracted many from their cars and trucks. The ambulances transported at least three dozen wounded to the emergency room with injuries, according to Ken Shockley, a Fresno Fire Department spokesperson.

"Everybody was trying to miss everybody, but it was impossible not to get hit," according to Cindy Ramirez, who is 21 years old.

The freeway's northbound lanes were shut down and accident reconstructionists are at work trying to determine fault. Traffic was backed up for many miles just south of the crash site but the Southbound lanes did not close.
