One Person Killed in Fiery Big Rig Crash Involving Wrong Way Driver on the 210

May 24, 2012 According to reports one person was killed in a fiery crash involving a big rig and wrong way driver. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Thursday in the westbound lanes of the 210 Freeway, at Roxford Street, in Sylmar. California Highway Patrol officials said that the accident occurred when a UPS truck hauling two trailers met a driver traveling the wrong way on the freeway. CHP officials said the vehicle traveling the wrong way was a compact sedan.

The driver of the UPS big rig attempted to swerve, to avoid a head-on collision, but the big rig and sedan collided, CHP said. The back trailer being hauled rolled over into the center divider wall, causing it to fall into the eastbound lanes of the 210 Freeway. The front trailer remained in the westbound lanes and caught fire after the crash. According to the California Highway Patrol the woman driving the compact sedan was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her identity has not been released pending notification of her family.

CHP officials said the driver of the big rig had to be extricated from the truck but did not have life threatening injuries. They said the trailer that caught fire was a total loss. CHP officials closed the two left lanes while the accident scene was cleared and the lanes were reopened at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Truck Collision with Family Kills Young Woman

May 7, 2012 - According to reports a collision involving a truck and a family, resulted in the death of a mother. According to the Covina Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of San Bernardino Road and Vincent Avenue in Covina. Covina police said that a Honda pickup truck and a Chevrolet sedan were involved in the collision. The pickup truck collided with the sedan when one of the vehicles was making a left turn onto Vincent Avenue. Police said a family of five was waiting to cross the street when the truck veered into the northwest corner of the intersection. A woman in her 20’s was struck and killed in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. A seven month old infant was also injured in the crash and a woman in her 50’s. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries Covina police said. The two teenage boys that were with the women and infant were uninjured in the accidents. Covina Police said that the accident remains under investigation.

One Person Killed in Truck Crash Hauling “Radioactive” Barrels

May 6, 2012 - According to reports one person was killed in a truck accident, with a truck that was hauling radioactive barrels. According to authorities the accident occurred Sunday night, in the southbound lanes of the I-605 in the vicinity of Katella Avenue and Willow Street off ramp, near Los Alamitos. Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said the accident occurred when the truck crashed into a tree. Capt. Stone said one person was killed and another person was transported to an area hospital trauma center. The truck was carrying barrels that said they contained radioactive material, Capt. Stone said.
