March 3, 2011 - According to reports by Ehline News, a big rig collision killed two in Pomona. The collision took place on the 60 Freeway in Pomona, California.
According to authorities the collision occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. in the vicinity of the 60 Freeway and the transition road from the southbound San Gabriel 605 Freeway.
The collision occurred when a big rig crashed through the center divider from the transition road from the southbound San Gabriel 605 Freeway. The big rig crashing through the median collided with a silver Nissan Altmia in the eastbound lanes, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
Two women were trapped in the Altima that caught on fire as a result of the Pomona big rig truck collision. According to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball drivers that witnessed the collision attempted to pull the women out of the Nissan.
According to Officer Villalobos the women that were in their late 40s were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The driver of the big rig was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officer Villalobos stated the 60 Freeway lanes were closed west of Peck Street and reopened at 8:30 a.m. after investigators examined the scene of the big rig truck accident.
