June 18, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a woman was trapped and critically injured in a Los Angeles Big Rig crash. The accident occurred approximately 7:00 a.m. Friday morning critically injuring a woman in the vicinity of 48th Place and Long Beach Avenue in South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles Fire Department Shawn Lenske.
The collision occurred near the Metro Blue Line tracks, closing some of the tracks for several hours. The crash involved a big rig and the vehicle the woman was driving, when the car collided with the big rig it became trapped under the cab of the tractor trailer.
According to Lenske, it took Los Angeles firefighters to free the woman that was pinned under the cab of the big rig. The woman is identified as approximately 30 years old who was driving the vehicle and was transported by paramedics to the hospital in critical condition.
According to Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo the Blue Line tracks were closed in both directions due to the collision and buses were brought to shuttle passengers around the closed section of the highway until approximately 8:30 a.m. One track was reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m. allowing north and southbound trains to alternate sharing the opened track.
