July 12, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports Interstate 5 lanes were closed after two big rigs crashed.
Three of the four southbound lanes were closed after the Monday morning accidents in Castaic that involved two big rigs. According to the California Highway Patrol officer Patrick Kimball the Castaic crash occurred when one of the big rigs crashed into the back of another big rig in the vicinity south of CHP Road exit on Interstate 5 at approximately 6:30 a.m.
Officer Kimball stated the southbound lanes were expected to stay closed until approximately 8:00 a.m. Due to the collision one of the big rigs caught fire and because it was carrying bread there was no concern about hazardous materials, according to authorities.
