July 20, 2010-According to reports a the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were blocked after the big rig overturned. According to the California Highway Patrol the accident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. in the vicinity of Roxford Street in the Newhall Pass area. They issued a SigAlert a short time later for all the southbound lanes of Interstate 5.
Officers on the scene of the overturned big rig were directing traffic onto the right side of the southbound lanes according to California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.
According to Officer Martin the big rig was leaking diesel fuel and they originally estimated the freeway would be reopened within two hours. The cause of the big rig crash is still under investigation according to Officer Martin and the reopening status of the southbound lanes was changed to an undetermined time.
